Care through the season

Water tomatoes and peppers evenly to reduce stress, and avoid wetting leaves late in the day. Work compost into the bed before planting and feed fruiting plants lightly during the season. Pinch basil frequently and remove flower buds to keep leaves coming.

Tips

Harvest basil in the morning after dew dries for the best flavor. Support tomatoes early, before they sprawl. Keep vigorous oregano contained, especially if it is planted in a permanent bed.
