How to Store Okra
Okra is highly perishable and stores best for only a few days. Harvest it dry and handle gently to avoid darkened, bruised pods.

Best storage conditions
Store at about 45 to 50 F with high humidity, around 90 to 95 percent. Keep it in the dark or low light, and avoid very cold conditions.
How long it keeps
Usually 2 to 4 days, occasionally up to about 1 week if very fresh.
Storage methods
Do not wash before storage. Place dry pods in a perforated plastic bag in the refrigerator, and avoid sealing them in a wet container. Temperatures much below 45 F can cause chilling injury, so use promptly.
Freezing & preserving
Freeze after washing, trimming, and blanching. Okra also dries well and can be pickled. For canning, use tested USDA or NCHFP recipes, and plain okra is a low-acid food that requires pressure canning where applicable.
Tips
Check daily for slimy or soft pods and remove them. Store away from ethylene-producing fruits such as apples and bananas.
