About Hakurei
Hakurei is a Japanese-style F1 hybrid salad turnip prized for its small, smooth, pure-white round roots and exceptionally sweet, mild flavor. The flesh is tender enough to eat raw, and both the roots and the smooth, hairless greens are used in the kitchen. It matures very fast and stays crisp rather than fibrous when picked at the right size.
Growing Hakurei Turnip
Sow in the cool weather of spring or fall, thinning to about 2 to 3 inches apart since these are small salad turnips rather than large storage roots. It is quick to mature at roughly 38 to 40 days, so make successive sowings every couple of weeks for a steady supply. Harvest when roots reach about 1.5 to 2 inches for the best sweetness and texture, and protect young plants from flea beetles with row cover.
