About Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico, also sold as Porto Rico, is an old Southern heirloom known for its compact, bush-like vines. It produces copper to orange skin over moist, deep orange flesh that bakes up very sweet, long a favorite for home tables. Its short vines make it more manageable than sprawling field types.
Growing Puerto Rico Sweet Potato
The bushy habit allows tighter spacing, roughly 10 to 14 inches apart, and suits smaller beds. Plan on a warm season of about 110 to 120 days and plant only after the soil has warmed well. Keep moisture even, harvest before frost, and cure the roots warm to develop their full sweetness for storage.
