Jewel is a long-established orange sweet potato prized for its dependable storage and eating quality. It produces copper-orange skin over moist, sweet orange flesh on strong trailing vines. It is valued for good field resistance to several problems including internal cork, fusarium wilt, and root-knot nematode.
Growing Jewel Sweet Potato
Give it a full warm season of roughly 100 to 120 days since it matures a bit slower than Beauregard. Plant slips 12 to 18 inches apart in warm, loose, well-drained soil and keep the bed weed-free while vines fill in. Cure the roots warm and humid after digging to bring out sweetness and its noted long shelf life.
