About Tyee
Tyee is a vigorous semi-savoy hybrid with dark green, slightly crinkled leaves held on upright plants, which keeps foliage cleaner than flat-ground types. It is well regarded for strong bolt resistance and resistance to downy mildew, and it performs especially well as an overwintered or very early spring crop. Note that seed has become harder to find in recent years as some suppliers have discontinued it.
Growing Tyee Spinach
Because it overwinters well in mild regions, sow in late summer to early fall or in very early spring, spacing plants 4 to 6 inches apart. The upright, semi-savoy leaves shed soil better but still benefit from mulch and thorough washing. Harvest outer leaves regularly and take the whole plant before long, warm days push it to bolt.
