Hale's Best Jumbo Melon
A long-popular cantaloupe with netted rind, orange flesh, and classic muskmelon flavor. It needs warmth for best sweetness.

About Hale's Best Jumbo
Hale's Best Jumbo is a classic heirloom muskmelon (cantaloupe) prized for its heavily netted, oval fruit and deep orange, richly aromatic, sweet flesh. Vines are vigorous and productive, and the variety is known for good tolerance to drought and some resistance to powdery mildew, which helped make it a longtime commercial favorite in the West.
Growing Hale's Best Jumbo Melon
Give the rambling vines plenty of room, spacing plants about 24 to 36 inches apart in rows 5 to 6 feet apart, and plant only after soil has warmed. Consistent watering builds sweetness, but ease off as fruit nears ripeness to concentrate sugars. Harvest at full slip, when the stem separates cleanly from the fruit with gentle pressure and the netting turns tan.
