Athena Melon
A widely grown hybrid with strong flavor, attractive netting, and dependable garden performance. It is a standard recommendation in many regions.

About Athena
Athena is a popular Eastern-type F1 hybrid cantaloupe bred for the humid conditions of the eastern United States. It produces firm, thick, salmon-orange flesh with a small seed cavity and a sturdy rind that ships and stores well, and it carries useful disease resistance including tolerance to Fusarium wilt and powdery mildew.
Growing Athena Melon
An early and dependable producer, Athena suits regions with disease pressure and moderate seasons. Space plants roughly 18 to 24 inches apart with 5 to 6 feet between rows, and keep foliage dry with drip irrigation to limit leaf disease. Its firm rind means it holds shape at half slip, so harvest as the ground spot turns golden and the stem begins to slip.
