About Peppermint
Peppermint is a distinctive chard grown for its candy-striped pink and white stems that look dipped in peppermint colors, topped with green leaves. The bicolor striping on each stalk sets it apart from solid-colored chards and gives it strong ornamental value. Flavor is mild and typical of chard, so it works well in both edible and decorative plantings.
Growing Peppermint Swiss Chard
Space plants roughly 8 to 12 inches apart in full sun to part shade and grow it in the cooler parts of the season, spring and fall, for the best stem coloring and to reduce bolting. Harvest stalks young at 6 to 10 inches when the pink-and-white striping is most vivid. Remove any leaves showing leaf-miner damage to keep the planting clean.
