About Bright Lights

Bright Lights is a colorful open-pollinated mix and an All-America Selections winner, prized for its rainbow of stem colors including gold, orange, pink, crimson, and white beneath lightly savoyed green to bronze leaves. The flavor is mild and slightly sweet like most chard, and because it is a blend each seedling can produce a different stem color. It is grown as much for ornamental value in the garden as for the kitchen.

Growing Bright Lights Swiss Chard

Space plants about 8 to 12 inches apart in full sun to part shade, and sow in early spring or again in late summer for a fall crop since it handles both cool weather and moderate heat. Harvest outer stalks when leaves reach 8 to 12 inches and keep cutting to encourage new growth from the center. Watch for leaf miners tunneling in the foliage and remove affected leaves promptly.
