About Strawberry
Strawberry is an heirloom ornamental and popping corn named for its short, plump ears that resemble oversized strawberries, packed with glossy deep mahogany-red kernels. The compact plants stay relatively short and commonly set two or more small ears apiece. When popped, the kernels open into small, tender white flakes, so the variety works for both fall decoration and snacking.
Growing Strawberry Popcorn
Space plants about 8 to 12 inches apart in a block of at least four short rows so the wind-pollinated ears fill out fully. It fits a standard warm summer season and matures earlier than many field popcorns, but keep it well away from sweet corn to prevent cross-pollination that spoils both. Let the ears dry on the stalk until the husks are papery and the kernels are hard, then cure them further indoors before shelling.
