How to Store Rosemary

Rosemary is sturdier than tender herbs, so it keeps a bit longer fresh and also dries very well. The main storage goals are cool temperatures and avoiding trapped moisture.

Rosemary

Best storage conditions

Store fresh rosemary at 32 to 40 F with fairly high humidity, about 90 to 95 percent, out of light. Once dried, store airtight in a cool, dark, dry place.

How long it keeps

Fresh rosemary usually keeps 1 to 2 weeks. Dried rosemary keeps best quality for about 6 to 12 months.

Storage methods

Wrap sprigs loosely in a barely damp paper towel and refrigerate in a perforated bag or container. Keep leaves dry enough to avoid condensation. Do not seal wet sprigs in airtight plastic.

Freezing & preserving

Rosemary freezes well on the stem or chopped. It is one of the easiest herbs to air-dry or dehydrate. Use tested USDA or NCHFP recipes for infused products or other preserved forms.

Tips

If needles begin dropping, use it soon. Store separately from very fragrant produce if you do not want flavors to transfer.
