How to Store Grapes

Grapes store well compared with many berries, but they still need cold, humid conditions and gentle handling. Keep the clusters dry and do not wash until use.

Grapes

Best storage conditions

Store at 31 to 34 F with high humidity, about 90 to 95 percent, in the dark. Refrigeration is best for most homes.

How long it keeps

Fresh grapes usually keep 1 to 3 weeks in the refrigerator, sometimes longer if very cold and sound. They keep only a few days at room temperature.

Storage methods

Store clusters in a perforated bag or ventilated container without crushing them. Leave the bloom on the fruit and do not wash until ready to eat. Keep them away from strong odors, because grapes can absorb them.

Freezing & preserving

Freeze whole grapes for later use, or dry them into raisins. Juice, jelly, and preserves are also good options. For canning or juice processing, use tested USDA or NCHFP recipes.

Tips

Remove spoiled berries from the cluster as you find them. Keep grapes dry, because surface moisture speeds decay.
