When & How to Harvest Raspberries
Raspberries are delicate and need to be picked at the right stage for the best flavor and handling. If left too long, they soften quickly and lose quality fast.

How to tell it is ready
Ripe raspberries have full color for the variety and slip off the white core easily when touched. The berries should look plump and come away cleanly, not feel hard or pale.
How to harvest
Use a light touch and pinch or roll each berry off into your hand or a shallow container. Do not stack fruit deeply, and avoid pulling hard on canes or side shoots while picking.
Timing
Harvest every day or two during the season because berries ripen quickly and not all at once. Pick in the cool morning once fruit is dry. Summer-bearing and fall-bearing types each produce over a harvest window rather than all at once.
After the harvest
Move berries into shade immediately and refrigerate as soon as possible. Do not wash until use, and keep fruit in shallow containers to reduce crushing. Sort out any soft or damaged berries right away.
Tips
Frequent picking keeps berries from overripening on the plant. Handle containers gently, since raspberries bruise very easily.
