When & How to Harvest Radishes
Radishes are at their best when roots are harvested before they turn pithy or overly hot. Fast, timely harvest is especially important because they mature quickly.

How to tell it is ready
Pull roots when the shoulders show at the soil line and the root is about 1/2 to 1 inch across for most spring types, or the expected size for the variety. Roots should feel firm, with smooth skin and fresh-looking tops.
How to harvest
Loosen soil if needed, then pull the root straight up by the tops. In heavier ground, use a hand fork first so the roots do not snap.
Timing
Many radishes are ready in about 20 to 35 days, though larger storage types take longer. Harvest in the morning and check plantings often because size changes quickly. Pull in stages if roots are maturing unevenly.
After the harvest
Trim off the leafy tops soon after harvest so they do not draw moisture from the roots. Brush or rinse off soil, dry the roots, and refrigerate promptly. Store roots separately from greens if you harvested both.
Tips
Succession sow for a steady harvest instead of planting all at once. Do not leave mature roots in warm soil too long.
