About Crookneck
Yellow Crookneck is a classic heirloom summer squash recognized by its curved, swan-like neck and golden skin that turns bumpy and warted as it matures. The flesh is tender with a buttery, slightly nutty flavor when the fruit is picked young. It grows on an open bush plant and is one of the oldest summer squashes grown in North America.
Growing Crookneck Summer Squash
Give bush plants about 2 to 3 feet of space in warm, fertile soil and full sun. Harvest while the fruit is small and the skin is still fairly smooth, since the neck skin toughens and the seeds enlarge with age. Pick frequently and watch for squash vine borers and powdery mildew.
