About Boyne
Boyne is a very cold-hardy summer-bearing (floricane) red raspberry developed on the Canadian prairies, making it a strong choice for cold northern gardens. It bears medium-sized, dark red, aromatic berries that are excellent for jam, freezing, and preserves. Plants are vigorous and sucker freely, spreading readily to fill out a row.
Growing Boyne Raspberry
Its heavy suckering means you should plan to thin and confine the patch each year so it does not crowd itself or creep into paths. As a summer-bearing type, remove the old fruited canes after harvest and leave the vigorous new canes for next season. Space plants about 2 to 3 feet apart with a wire trellis, and harvest the soft, deeply colored berries promptly since they are tender.
