Hachiya is a large, acorn-shaped astringent Japanese persimmon with deep orange skin and rich, jelly-soft flesh when fully ripe. It is excellent for baking and drying, but is unpleasantly puckery before complete softening.
Growing Hachiya Persimmon
Hachiya can produce fruit without a pollinizer. Harvest fully colored fruit before hard frost if possible, then let it soften completely indoors before eating.
